This Privacy Policy applies to https://phrazle.org (hereinafter, "us", "we", or "https://phrazle.org"). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting personally identifiable information you may provide us through the Website. We have adopted this privacy policy ("Privacy Policy") to explain what information may be collected on our Website, how we use this information, and under what circumstances we may disclose the information to third parties. This Privacy Policy applies only to information we collect through the Website and does not apply to our collection of information from other sources.

This Privacy Policy, together with the Terms and conditions posted on our Website, set forth the general rules and policies governing your use of our Website. Depending on your activities when visiting our Website, you may be required to agree to additional terms and conditions.

Website Visitors

Like most website operators, Phrazle.org LLC collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. Phrazle.org LLC's purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how Phrazle.org LLC's visitors use its website. From time to time, Phrazle.org LLC may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its website.

Phrazle.org LLC also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses in its server logs and, in hashed form, for star ratings. Phrazle.org LLC only discloses these IP addresses under the same circumstances that it uses and discloses personally-identifying information as described below.

Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information

Certain visitors to Phrazle.org LLC's websites choose to interact with Phrazle.org LLC in ways that require Phrazle.org LLC to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that Phrazle.org LLC gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, visitors who send us a message through the contact form may give us an email address so that we can reply.

There are no accounts on the site. We never ask for your name, email address or other personal details in order to play.

The contact form and server logs

If you send us a message through the contact form, we receive what you type into it: the message, the optional subject and, if you enter one, your email address, together with any screenshots you choose to attach (up to 3 images). A small anti-spam check runs in your browser before the message is sent. The form is handled by a feedback service that delivers the messages to us. We use your message only to answer you and to fix the problem you reported, and we do not add you to any mailing list.

Like almost every website, our web server records basic technical information about each request, such as the IP address, the date and time, the page requested and the browser's user agent. These logs are used to keep the site secure and running, and they are not used for advertising.

Information stored on your device

The game saves its data in your browser's local storage on the device you play on. This includes your unfinished game in each mode and for each Daily and archive puzzle (your guesses, the hints you used and the position of the cursor), your results for archive puzzles, your statistics for each mode (such as games played, wins, streaks, guess distribution and hints used), the phrases you played recently (so that they are not repeated), your settings (theme, high-contrast colors, sound, vibration, reduced motion and language), whether you have seen the tutorial and whether you have closed the language suggestion. If you played the earlier version of Phrazle in the same browser, the game reads the statistics that version left in your browser once, adds them to your new statistics and leaves the old entry in place.

This data stays on your device. It is not sent to our servers, it is not linked to your identity, and we cannot see or restore it. You can delete it at any time by clearing the site data for phrazle.org in your browser settings; this also deletes your saved games, statistics and streaks.

Star ratings

You can rate the game with the stars on the home page and on the Unlimited page. When you vote, we store your rating (1 to 5 stars), the time of the vote and a one-way hash made from your IP address, the date and a secret random value (a salted hash). The hash lets us accept one vote per visitor per day; your IP address itself is not stored with the vote. Individual vote records are deleted after about 30 days. After that, only the totals (the number of votes and their sum) are kept, and they are used to show the average rating.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics (measurement ID G-GCV983863G), a service provided by Google, to understand how many people visit the site, which pages they open and how the game is played. The Google Analytics script loads on every page of the site.

Google Analytics sets first-party cookies and collects information such as the pages you visit, the time of your visit, the page that sent you to us, your browser and device type, screen size, language and an approximate location derived from your IP address. The game also sends a few events: starting a game, winning or losing it (with the number of guesses and hints), using a hint, sharing a result, completing the tutorial, opening fullscreen and playing an archive puzzle, together with the language and the mode.

We use these reports in aggregate to improve the game and the site, not to identify individual visitors. To stop Google Analytics from collecting data in your browser on all websites, install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or block analytics cookies in your browser settings.

Security

The security of your Personal Information is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

The site is served only over an encrypted HTTPS connection.

Advertisements

Ads appearing on our website may be delivered to users by advertising partners, who may set cookies. These cookies allow the ad server to recognize your computer each time they send you an online advertisement to compile information about you or others who use your computer. This information allows ad networks to, among other things, deliver targeted advertisements that they believe will be of most interest to you. Ezoic Services

This website uses the services of Ezoic Inc. (“Ezoic”), including to manage third-party interest-based advertising. Ezoic may employ a variety of technologies on this website, including tools to serve content, display advertisements and enable advertising to visitors of this website, which may utilize first and third-party cookies.

In the game, each hint opens after a short rewarded ad served by Ezoic. The ad is shown only when you ask for a hint; if no ad is available, the hint opens without one.

A cookie is a small text file sent to your device by a web server that enables the website to remember information about your browsing activity. First-party cookies are created by the site you are visiting, while third-party cookies are set by domains other than the one you're visiting. Ezoic and our partners may place third-party cookies, tags, beacons, pixels, and similar technologies to monitor interactions with advertisements and optimize ad targeting. Please note that disabling cookies may limit access to certain content and features on the website, and rejecting cookies does not eliminate advertisements but will result in non-personalized advertising.

The consent banner and your choices

Where the law requires it, for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the site shows a consent banner from Ezoic's consent platform (Gatekeeper) before personalized ads are served. There you can accept or reject cookies and choose which purposes and partners you allow. These choices apply to advertising; they do not switch off Google Analytics, which loads on every page.

You can change your choice at any time by clearing the cookies and site data for phrazle.org in your browser; the banner then appears again on your next visit. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings and use the Google Analytics opt-out add-on linked above. If you block or clear local storage for this site, the game cannot remember your saved games, statistics and settings.

Aggregated Statistics

Phrazle.org LLC may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to its website. Phrazle.org LLC may display this information publicly or provide it to others. However, Phrazle.org LLC does not disclose your personally-identifying information.

We do not sell personal information ourselves. Under some US state privacy laws, the use of advertising cookies by our ad partners may count as "selling" or "sharing" personal information; you can limit it with the consent banner where it is shown, the tools linked above and your browser settings. Google, Ezoic and their partners may process data in the United States and other countries.

How long data is kept

Data in your browser's local storage stays until you delete it. Contact form messages are kept only as long as we need them to answer you and to fix the problem you reported, and we delete them earlier if you ask. Individual rating records are deleted after about 30 days. Server logs are kept for a limited time for security and then deleted. Google Analytics, Ezoic and its partners keep the data they collect according to their own policies.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information about you, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information or of targeted advertising, and to complain to a data protection authority. Because we do not keep accounts or profiles, most of the data related to your visit is held by your browser or by the services named above. You can use the consent banner, the opt-out tools linked on this page and your browser settings, and you can send us any request through the contact form. We will answer within the time required by the law that applies to you.

Children

Phrazle is a word puzzle for all ages. The site does not ask anyone, child or adult, for personal information in order to play, and the game stores its data only on the device. The site does show ads from third parties, as described above, so we recommend that younger children use it with an adult. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, for example through the contact form, tell us and we will delete it.

Privacy Policy Changes

Although most changes are likely to be minor, Phrazle.org LLC may change its Privacy Policy from time to time, and in Phrazle.org LLC's sole discretion. Phrazle.org LLC encourages visitors to frequently check this page for any changes to its Privacy Policy. Your continued use of this site after any change in this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of such change.
